Stylists from around the country gathered in New York City on September 17, 18 and 19, 2012 for a series of one-day workshops with Oribe. The intimate, 20-student classes enabled stylists to get up close and personal with their icon. Beyond learning how to master their craft they got valuable feedback from this star stylist.
"Because the classes were so intimate, I really got a chance to work with and get to know everyone," says Oribe. "Teaching others helps me learn-I'm getting as much as I'm giving, plus, I'm having fun!"
Oribe kicked off each workshop with a talk on his philosophy on hair and he also discussed some of his recent work. He then demonstrated several looks while taking questions from the audience and sharing his expert tips and techniques. Stylists then broke off on their own to recreate two of the looks-and they were able to add their own creative twists.
The first look featured soft, classic waves using a set with recently repackaged Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray. The style was a sneak preview of the look Oribe created for Heidi Klum for the recent Emmy Awards.
Inspired by the movie Snow White and the Huntsman, the second look flaunted intricately braided and twisted up-dos. Using Sculpting Cream, stylists shaped, twisted, braided and defined innovative styles that expressed their own voice and creativity.
When each look was complete, the stylists joined Oribe for a photo shoot, where this icon shared his tricks for capturing the perfect shot.
"It was great to work with each stylist on set and show them what I usually do on a shoot," says Oribe. "They got to learn about lighting, photography and more."
