Behind the Scenes: CND Runway Nail Fashions

For fashion runway shows around the globe, our nail production system has definitely been streamlined over the past several years,” says Kristina Estabrooks.

“Now, we have up to 48 hours to produce the nail designs for each fashion designer, although quite often we must turnaround our designs in as little as 24. This means that we sometimes have to sleep in shifts!”

“We,” of course, refers to the entire, five-member CND team that’s responsible for creating up to 650 nails for a single show. The nails are actually tips with adhesive backing that completely cover the nail.

“We make 20 tips for each model, because you never which sizes you’re going to need, plus nails can be lost once models leave your chair. We also make up to three extra sets just in case, a backup measure that has avoided a beauty crisis on more than one occasion.”

“To create Ruffian’s tuxedo nails, we used a dry brushed technique with Asphalt nail lacquer as a base and then topped each nail with Ice Blue Shimmer and Violet Shimmer. Blackjack was used to create small details.” Kristina Estabrooks

Jen Kao precious gemstones   The Blonds show
“To match Jen Kao precious gemstones used in its jewelry line, Gold Chrome was applied as a base and then Midnight Sapphire was used to create a reverse French manicure. Interior effects were done with Iced Blue Shimmer, Gold Pearl and more Midnight Sapphire.” Estabrooks   “For The Blonds show, tubular netting was used to create the dragon bodies; the legs, heads and tails were sculpted with liquid powder.” Estabrooks
