Mayan Mosaic - Behind the Scenes

Stylist Greta Coston channels the exotic allure of Mayan queens.

They were imperial leaders whose feminine charms and unbridled powers created important alliances, ignited wars and caused deep shifts in Mayan culture.

Intrigued by queens of the Snake Dynasty—a time when women of the imperial court were most powerful—Greta Coston, Joico National Artistic Team Member, ignites a modernday interpretation with bright slashes of color, a mash of hair textures, fine-feathered garlands, and a generous dose of imperial bearing.

Seeking perfection, Coston cleans up all perimeter lines just prior to her model being photographed. Makeup artist Danielle Donahue uses the color wheel to her advantage with an opaque application of golden maize to help the blue and bluegreen in the model’s hair ignite for the camera.		Model receives instructions from photographer Joseph Cartright on how to toss her hair to achieve the best color shots.
