The Mod Mullet

At a recent Marc Jacobs Fall 2013/14 runway show, the leggy models donned a new look-a chic twist on the mullet. Joi Rooks, KMS California Artistic Team Member and owner of Atlanta's chic fresche salon refers to it as the "mod mullet."

"This fall, I'm loving the mod mullet-it's super easy to maintain and it's really chic. The back is slighter longer than the sides like a mullet, but the styling makes it fresh and modern."

Get the Look: The Cut

With medium or longer length hair, determine the length of the perimeter first by razor cutting the edges to create a shaggy, lived-in feel and piecey texture.

Remember to cut an oval shape shorter around the fringe/front area and angle the sides and back to be longer.

Then, find a starting guide by selecting a facial feature such as the tip of the nose and cut horizontal layers throughout the entire head.

This will create a chunky, layered top for the mod mullet with shaggy textured edges.

The dual textures are what modernizes the look.

How to Style:

Work KMS California HAIRPLAY messing creme through towel-dried hair and air or blow dry for fullness and chunky texture.

The grip creates a lived-in, unkempt sexy style with modern movement.
