It's not a matter of whether clients can wear neon makeup; it's a matter of how.
"Neon makeup reads as super high-fashion while still being fun and summery," advises Lee Hubbard Smith, veteran makeup artist.
"All women can wear this look as long as they feel confident and act like they own it."
Smith dishes practical advice on how to apply neon shades:
• For a chic, garish-free look, choose one feature to accentuate. Because layers of heavy foundation can come off as too '80s, keep the rest of the face light, simple and neutral.
• For most salon clients, use matte neon shades.
• Create a flawless complexion. Disguise blemishes and dark spots with a creamy concealer and use face powder for a matte finish.
• Dust forehead, cheekbones and the bridge of the nose with a shimmery bronzer to make the one spot of neon color really pop. This technique is especially nice with a light application of neon pink or peach blush.
