Imagine that you’re still in beauty school and you’ve won the “Junior Style Stars” competition by Barristar, with a fi rstprize bounty of $5,000 in cash and an additional $45,000 in educational classes and experiences. Talk about the best way to kick off your career - ever!

“It has truly been the most amazing year of my life,” beams winner Pavy Olivarez. “I’ve attended the CEA convention in Arizona, where hundreds of beauty instructors gave me a standing ovation and told me that I inspired them, not to mention receiving a huge compliment from Vivienne Mackinder—OMG! I traveled to the Premiere trade event in Orlando, Florida, to attend my first - ever hair show—it was so incredibly huge—where I met The Doves, Robert Cromeans and so many other hair idols, and even spoke on main stage about my win and journey.

“Not long after my eye - opening experience in Orlando, I spent four days in Puerto Rico with legendary businessman Jesse Briggs where I attended the San Juan Beauty Show and met beauty pros from all over the world. I also visited the Thermafuse headquarters in Kannapolis, North Carolina. CEO Van Stamey was such a gracious host!

“When visiting Santa Fe, New Mexico, I had a three-hour, one-on-one cutting workshop with Dwight Miller—the ultimate master of dry-cutting - and a haircolor class with Charlet Riddell, one of the most knowledgeable colorists on the planet. It snowed while I was there—a huge treat for a California man—which made everything so much more beautiful. My journey ended at ISSE Long Beach, where I was given the opportunity of a lifetime to assist Martin Parsons for two days during his stage presentations.

“I’ve grown so much through all of these experiences. I’ve connected with people through their passions and learned so many valuable things. My No. 1 lesson: The cash was the least important part of my winnings. What I learned during my year-long odyssey will continue to enrich my career forever.”
