The Paul Mitchell salon was prompted to host the fundraiser after young Davidson made a promise to her late grandmother to help others suffering from cancer. In lieu of her bat mitzvah, which she will be celebrating on her 13th birthday in November, Davidson helped orchestrate the entire event alongside her mother Arlene and Epic Salon volunteers.
“The YouTube video was a huge success…she pounded the pavement for this event, licking tons of envelopes for donations and approving all [written work] herself,” said Arlene Davidson, mother of Morgan and employee at Epic Salon.
Morgan created a YouTube video explaining her reasons for having the cut-a-thon and asking the community to come out and help the City of Hope’s cancer stem cell research program. The day of the event, the salon was packed with people ready for haircuts and donations. Tables loaded with baskets of donated clothing, celebrity memorabilia, vacation packages and much more were auctioned including an exquisite basket filled with an assortment of Paul Mitchell products.
“There was a huge Paul Mitchell presence thanks to the volunteers and items donated,” said Ms. Davidson. The event raised $23,000 and the number is still rising. There are approximately 6,000 patients on a daily basis in search of a donor. Thanks to Morgan and Epic Salon, City of Hope’s cancer stem cell research program has gained more donations and 20 new donors have been added to their donor registry.
