HAIRSTYLE COLLECTIONS
What was Spencer’s greatest challenge? “Contortionists are extremely aware of their bodies, so movement and posing came naturally to them,” she replies. “My biggest challenge was creating something more creative with the hair, than what they could do with their bodies!”

This collection was a turning point in my work as a competitor,” notes Spencer. “After letting go of all my preconceived ideas about what would make a winning collection, I was finally able to understand that it wasn’t about winning; it was about passion. Once I decided to work with contortionists, the Balls, Rings and Springs collection just fell into place.

When a circus comes to town, what would you do? If you were Kera Spencer, stylist at Michael’s Hair Body Mind in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, you’d rush ringside and hire the contortionists for your next photo shoot.
“Glamour! Glamour! Our Disco image features big, sexy hair and even bigger attitudes,” Elias smiles.

Hair and fashion are unified in this thought-provoking collection with strong geometric lines countered by feminine, frothy waves and masculine fringes rolled up and away to expose the angst of a new age.
Subdued in some images and fierce in others, Venus displays two very raw human emotions.
For Venus, The M.P. Babicz Styling Academy in Kraków, Poland, focuses on stylized creations inspired by coifs of the ’30s and ’60s.

“I almost delayed entering the Paul Mitchell contest another year,” confesses Valiente. “Naturally, I’m glad that I rushed things a bit to submit my images on time. Winning the Paul Mitchell Photo Shoot Contest has given me the confidence to enter NAHA 2011.
I decided to create light, airy looks to enhance the overall composition of the shoot,” smiles Valiente. “Of course, this included an artistic and very frothy interpretation of the ballerina bun.”
Valiente reveals, “I now divide my time between our family-owned salon of nine years, Atmosphere a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon in Phoenix, and the Angus Mitchell Salon in Beverly Hills. While I love working in our salon, I also want to be an editorial or celebrity stylist.”
Valiente’s ballet-inspired Pirouette placed first—out of 300 entries—in the Paul Mitchell Photo Shoot Contest 2010.
Black Swan step aside! Danielle Valiente’s Pirouette collection flows as gracefully as ballerina Alina Somova playing Giselle, while displaying hair that speaks to lightness, energy and delicate, classic beauty.
